Step into the world of carnival freaks… and meet a man who lived and loved it. Leonard “Stoney” St. Clair, associated himself with various sideshow acts, and bestowed his talents on any willing flesh. Alan Govenar retells Stoney’s story as it was told to him, accompanying his text with more than 150 amazing photographs of Stoneys flash and his subjects . This fascinating book delves into this subject more than any other of its kind, with only the fictional tale The Elephant Man coming close in comparison. For designers, flash fans, tattoo artists, and even carnival enthusiasts alike, this classic book has been brought back in print to delight and inspire a whole new generation.
Stoney Knows How: Life As a Sideshow Tattoo Artist
I plan on getting my first tattoo soon, it will be simply three letters in old english font. Would this be considered an “easier” tattoo for the artist compared to others they may have done? Or is it all the same (wouldn’t think so). Pardon my ignorance.
I have no experience in any medical fields but I am a fairly artistic and open minded person. I have several tattoos and piercings myself. I have a bunch of sketch books FILLED with drawings. How would I go about becoming an Apprentice to be a piercer/ tattoo artist?
I draw well, and my friend recommended me to a tattoo shop where they are looking for a tattoo artist (I hope I’m using the correct term- I mean the person who designs the tattoos and draws them, not the one who actually tattoos you).
What are this job’s requirements, artistically and practically? Do you need to improvise on the spot, or can you design it over a period of time?
I want to know if tattoo artists use tap water or distilled water to put in their rinse cup (the one in which they rinse their tattoo machine during a tattoo). Anyone know?
Say I’m getting a portrait tattoo, and i have the picture of the person. Will they just do whatever picture i bring them, or will they spend time to work on the design/picture with me?
I think being a tattoo artist would be a fun job. Do they make good pay? I’m not looking to rake in thousands of dollars but just enough to pay for normal living expenses such as an apartment, groceries, ect. How do I go about becoming a tattoo artist? And does anyone have any tips?
Ya i want to know how much a tattoo artist makes, and also what if your the owner of a tattoo parlor?
